MARY KAYE HOLMES

Helping leaders make better decisions about people under pressure.

Mary Kaye Holmes is a leadership strategist, keynote speaker, attorney, and author who helps leaders see people more accurately, recognize overlooked potential, and build cultures where people and organizations thrive.

Her work sits at the intersection of leadership, human behavior, justice, and organizational culture, helping executives recognize hidden potential, reduce costly misjudgment, and build environments where accountability and dignity coexist.

Drawing from decades of work across law, executive leadership, and justice initiatives, Mary Kaye has spent her career working in places where human judgment carries extraordinary consequences. From contributing to a wrongful conviction exoneration, to advancing anti-human trafficking initiatives, to supporting second-chance opportunities, she has seen firsthand what happens when people are reduced to labels instead of understood in context.

That same perspective now informs her work with corporate leaders, government agencies, nonprofits, educational institutions, and international organizations. Through her keynote presentations and the leadership framework introduced in Misjudged: How Systems Get People Wrong and What It Costs, she equips leaders to recognize how pressure, perception, and systems influence decision-making about people.

Beyond the platform, Mary Kaye serves as the founder of the Justice and Restoration Initiative, leading initiatives that expand opportunity and restore dignity across the United States, Malawi, India, Peru, and other global partnerships. These efforts include the Mary Kaye Holmes Women’s Entrepreneurship Centre in Malawi, international anti-human trafficking advocacy, leadership development, and community-based initiatives that create lasting pathways toward restoration and economic opportunity.

A U.S. Supreme Court admitted attorney, United Nations Representative, and international speaker, Mary Kaye believes one principle sits at the center of every healthy organization and every healthy society.

People are often more than the story we tell about them.

How Systems Get People Wrong and What It Costs

In Misjudged, attorney and leadership strategist Mary Kaye Holmes examines ten of the most common ways leaders and organizations get people wrong  and what it costs when those misjudgments go unchallenged. Drawing from behavioral research, organizational dynamics, and her own experience navigating institutional systems from both sides, she explores the hidden patterns that shape how people are trusted, evaluated, promoted, and defined.
